Part2 - Basic Care - Temperature
Place Phalaenopsis in a well-lit place, but without direct sunlight to avoid burning. If the room is low humidity, you can put the orchid on a tray of wet pebbles or expanded clay, and spray with a nebulizer in the morning. The water should not fall into the colors, otherwise brown spots will appear. You should also make sure that water droplets do not flow and collect into pits on the leaves or center of the rosette. If water still accumulates, drink with a paper towel.
Watering should be after the condensation from the walls of the pot disappears and the roots become silvery. Also, it does not need to be fertilized, as it is enough that such is done before the sale; you can start in a month and a half. If Phalaenopsis has already withered, then you will need to buy everything you need for transplanting - pine bark in cubes measuring 1,5 to 2 cm and a transparent plastic pot.
As we have already said, this kind of orchid is easy to look at as long as the concept and functions of basic care are understood.
TEMPERATURE
The representatives of this type of hybrid orchids are adapted to moderate temperatures throughout the year and it is recommended that the plants be grown under the following temperature conditions:
Daily: 20-24 ° C (maximum 32 ° C);
Nighttime: 15-18 ° C.
For successful Phalaenopsis cultivation, a night temperature of about 4 ° C lower than daytime should be maintained at home. For example, if the daytime temperature is + 20 ° C, at night it should be no more than + 16 ° C. At higher (lower) fluctuations between day and night temperatures of flowering stems and orchid leaves, a sweet, sticky secretion begins to appear.
At temperatures from 25 ° C to 32 ° C, the orchids are actively growing on a green mass (leaf), but much worse in color. If your home is very warm and the differences between day and night temperatures are almost absent, then the flowering of your orchid will be quite rare. However, do not despair. Even in such conditions, as a rule, under the influence of sunlight, plants by the windows absorb heat during the day and, accordingly, cool during the night, which already creates a small temperature amplitude. In addition to these natural fluctuations, it is preferable to ventilate the room full of orchids daily in the evening and leave the window open all night long (but not below 16 ° C). During the heating season, reduce the heating at night and may increase the humidity depending on the heating appliances used.
